Een draak, een roos en een boek

Op 23 april smelt het Catalaanse feest van cultuur en liefde samen met de maritieme schoonheid van Sitges, waardoor een onvergetelijk decor ontstaat om jouw perfecte boek en de mooiste roos te vinden.

 

Het Sant Jordi-feest in Sitges wordt voornamelijk gevierd op de Passeig de la Ribera, die verandert in een levendige markt vol boeken en rozen, met de kerk en het strand als schilderachtig decor. Gedurende de hele dag wordt de Diada aangevuld met ontmoetingen en signeersessies van lokale auteurs en een uitgebreid cultureel programma met workshops, vertellingen en de traditionele Ballada de Sardanes.

Thursday 16 April 

Presentation: Per sempre més, by Ramon Mirabet

Ramon Mirabet will be presenting Per sempre més in Sitges, discussing this musical autobiography that transforms grief into a celebration of love, life and memory.

Presentation: Microfestivales y otros escenarios posibles [Microfestivals and Other Possible Stages], by Nando Cruz

Barraques de Sitges will be presenting Microfestivales y otros escenarios posibles with the book’s author, Nando Cruz.

Friday 17 April

Canal Blau’s Sant Jordi conversation

Journalist Elisenda Rovira will be moderating a conversation between poet and prose author Cèlia Sànchez-Mústich, publisher Mar González (the opening speaker, or pregonera, for Sant Jordi 2025) and illustrator Lourdes Pañella Coll.

Presentation: Guia dels Vins Brisats de Catalunya [Guide to Orange Wines in Catalonia] + Tasting of orange Malvasia wines

The CIM is hosting an event that brings together culture and wine in a unique setting. Author Marc Picanyol will be presenting Guia dels Vins Brisats de Catalunya, followed by a guided tasting.

Saturday 18 April

Gathering of young readers

The star of this year’s gathering of young readers will be Lola Anglada’s En Peret, which brings together literature, art and heritage in a story for readers under the age of 12.

Literary tour of the Museu de Cau Ferrat with Andreu Bosch

Through a tour linking art and literature, this visit celebrates the universe created by Santiago Rusiñol, as well as the legacy of artists such as Ramon Casas, Picasso and El Greco.

Readathon for adults

Adults are invited to enjoy a literary evening in an iconic setting, where reading out loud becomes a shared experience.

Storytime: El drac que sabia llegir [The Dragon Who Could Read], by Keke Shuga

Author Keke Shuga will be reading his story El drac que sabia llegir. A far cry from the traditional Sant Jordi story, this fable introduces a kind dragon who can read and features plenty of friendship and love. Event for children over the age of three.

‘Primeres impressions’ [“First impressions”]. 2026 gathering with local authors (4thedition)

Since last Sant Jordi, several Sitges locals have published books, and will be the stars of the show for Sant Jordi 2026. On 23 April, they will be signing copies at the Sant Jordi Fair stall, but this pre-event gathering at the library will be a chance to get to know them better and hear excerpts of their new works as we start preparing our wish lists for the festival. Each author will have 60 seconds to read the excerpt of their choosing.

Tuesday 22 April

Sant Jordi pregó [opening speech] by meteorologist Gori Masip

Sitges’s own Gori Masip will be reading this year’s pregó for Sant Jordi.

Presentation: ‘Escrits de Santiago Rusiñol a l’Esquella de la Torratxa. Volum II (1908 – 1909)’ [Santiago Rusiñol’s pieces in L’Esquella de la Torratx . Volume II (1908–1909)], by Andreu Bosch and Juan Carlos Rodríguez

Museus de Sitges is hosting the presentation of the second volume rediscovering Santiago Rusiñol’s pieces in L’Esquella de la Torratxa. This instalment focuses on articles published between 1908 and 1909, many of which had been forgotten.

Thursday 23 April

Book and rose fair for Sant Jordi

The heart of the Sant Jordi programme. Throughout the day, Passeig de la Ribera will become a place for celebrating books and roses on one of the most special days for Catalan culture. This year, local authors will be signing books at the City Council stall by the monument to El Greco.

Les Veïnes tell us a story

The Ateneu Popular de Sitges, with the support of the Councillor’s Office for Economic Promotion, will be presenting a children’s storytelling session, “Les Veïnes ens expliquen un conte” [Les Veïnes tell us a story] for the festival.

Sant Jordi sardana dance/concert

The Amics de la Sardana de Sitges and the Cobla Maricel will be performing sardana dances to celebrate Sant Jordi’s Day.

A stroll with Rusiñol

A theatre-inspired journey to the heart of art that invites us to rediscover the oeuvre and philosophy of Santiago Rusiñol, one of the greats of Catalan culture, by celebrating the timelessness of his pieces and using theatre as a vehicle to reflect on great universal themes: freedom, art and the human condition. Participants will explore physical and emotional landscapes that reflect the spirit of Catalan modernisme.

Sitges en vers XIV [14th edition of Sitges in Poetry] – poetry, music and dance

A poetry, piano and dance recital in honour of Rainer Maria Rilke, on the centenary of his death.

Castells for Sant Jordi

The Colla Jove de Castellers de Sitges will be hosting an actuació castellera [human tower performance] with the Castellers de Sants and the Castellers de Castelldefels to celebrate Sant Jordi and bring year’s programme of events to a close.
